Facebook Survey Results

Knowing why people use certain social media platforms helps when creating native marketing content for it. For example, if you wanted to do the online equivalent of a cocktail party, you would want to post on Twitter instead of posting short blurbs on Medium. I did a survey about why people use Facebook, and hopefully some of this information can help you.

The main question for the survey was, “Why do you use Facebook?” There were some pre-written options, but also people could type in their own response. As of writing there were 21 responses, but I can hopefully later update this article if there are more.

11 out of 21 respondents, or about 52%, put that “Keeping up with the news” was a reason they used Facebook. 6 out of 21 respondents, or about 28%, chose “Chatting” as a reason. 5 out of 21, or about 23%, chose “Sharing things that are important to me” as a reason. 4 out of 21, or about 19%, chose “Sharing things I think are funny” as a reason.

Some of the written responses include the following:

-“I feel obligated to share photos of trips with my family. I think Facebook has made the world worse in measurable ways and they have violated the privacy of millions of people. My husband got rid of his, so I had to accept the social debt of Facebook connectivity to keep his family “in the loop” in shallow and meaningless ways. I resent having an account.”

-“Keeping in touch with family and friends, isn’t that the point of Facebook?”

-“For getting and asking information about university in the corresponding groups/pages”

-“Facebook marketplace”

-“To look at memes”

-“Niche groups, mainly”

-“look for events”

10 out of 21 respondents were from the USA, and the rest were from other countries such as South Korea, Japan, Lebanon, France, Canada (2 respondents), Germany, Croatia, Finland, and Vietnam.
