Why Social Influence Is the Future of SEO (Especially in Japan)

When asked if I’d invest time improving the SEO of a web page, my answer was a quick no. Instead, I prefer to invest in blogging and social media marketing.

Today, social signals in SEO—including likes, shares, and followers—greatly influence search engine behavior. Platforms like Google often prioritize Facebook pages with strong social influence over static pages optimized with traditional keywords.

What once revolved around fixed SEO strategies now hinges on real-time engagement and social metrics.

A website might have solid on-page SEO, but its social presence on platforms like Twitter or Instagram can outweigh that in search engine rankings.

Even search engine advertising is under scrutiny,  as users gravitate toward more engaging, authentic content.

I strongly believe the future of digital marketing lies in social-first strategies.

In Japan, however, the approach is more conservative. Businesses seek detailed case studies, and convincing Japanese clients often requires localized marketing. Each client demands a tailored strategy—this makes scaling difficult.

Still, there’s hope to overcome this phase and boost growth, especially since we’re already strong with foreign clients, though progress with Japanese customers remains slow.
